Women for Change Executive Director Lumba Siyanda says the suspension of campaigns in selected districts due to violence has affected women candidates who do not have alternative means of selling themselves to the electorate.
On June 15, The Electoral Commission of Zambia ECZ suspended all campaign activities by the ruling PF and the opposition UPND in Lusaka, Mpulungu, Namwala and Nakonde districts, due to the escalation of political violence in the said areas.
But Ms Siyanga has bemoaned the fact that women candidates who do not usually engage in political violence have suffered the consequences of the suspension despite not been directly involved in the violence themselves.
Ms Siyanga has urged the Zambia Police to act decisively to containing violence so that female candidates are not affect ted in case of such a suspension.
