Despite the country recording unprecedented figures in the number of covid19 deaths and new infections, members of the public have continued attending funerals in large numbers disregarding covid19 regulations.
A check at Lusaka Chingwere cemetery by Millennium radio revealed that compliance to covid19 guidelines is very poor as mourners have continued to gather in large numbers, not practicing social distance, with most of them not wearing face masks.
Those spoken to charged that it is not possible for people to stop attending funerals because it is practice that has been there for years as it is a way of showing sympathy to the believed families.
Meanwhile some mourners claimed that they still find it a challenge to continuously wear face masks.
And Some traders conducting business at cemetery said compliance to covid-19 guidelines is very poor among mourners as only a few are seen wearing face masks while others still share beer from the same bottle.
The traders also charged that there has been an increase in the number of burials being conducted at Chinggwere which is more than 15 burials per day.
