Zambia records 407 covid19 deaths in just three weeks of the third wave

Ministry of Health says 407 covid19 deaths have been recorded in just three weeks of the third wave with 47 new deaths reported in the last 24 hours

Meanwhile 1,598 new confirmed COVID-19 cases have been recorded out of 6,369 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

Ministry of Health permanent secretary for technical services Kennedy Malama says the number of daily COVID-19 deaths being recorded is unprecedented.

Dr Malma say last month, isolation centres only has 50 patients in facilities but today over a thousand COVID-19 cases in the healthcare facilities.

He also says the number of critical patients has gone up in the past month, from 4 critical patients recorded on 21st May to today having 131 in critical condition.

Dr Malama says as the number of COVID-19 cases increases in the country, the hospitals both public and private offering COVID-19 isolation and treatment facilities are heavily burdened with patients, many of whom require intensive and critical care.
