STAKEHOLDERS IN THE EDUCATION SECTOR BACK CLOSURE OF SCHOOLS WITH THE INCREASE IN THE COVID 19 CASES

Written by on June 17, 2021

Stakeholders have backed the decision by government to close schools for 21 days following an increase in the covid 19 cases.

National Action For Quality Education in Zambia executive director Aaron Chansa says the decision is timely as any further delays  would have turned schools into death traps and super spreader points.

Mr Chansa  has however called on  government to look into how best examination classes could be allowed to continue learning to avoid them losing out on their much needed learning time.

He says suspending the learning process for examination classes will have a negative  impact on the performance of the learners .

Meanwhile Zambia National Education Coalition (ZANEC)  has called on government to allocate more funds to the ministry of general education for the procurement of alternative learning materials .

ZANEC Executive director George Hamusunga says  the government should  come  up with more initiatives to cater for all learners as the ZNBC education channel does not serve the rural child.
