The Bars and Night Club owners has threatened to defy Presidential Edgar’s Lungu’s directive for bars and night clubs to only operate three days a week stating that the operators were not consulted by government.
Yesterday, President Edgar Lungu directed for heightened measures following the alarming spike in the number of Covid19 deaths and new cases being recorded in the third wave of the pandemic.
The Head of State directed that Bars, Casinos, and Nightclubs should only operate on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 18hrs to 22hrs.
But Association General Secretary Edmond Lifwekelo told Millennium radio in an interview that the association was not consulted on the issue despite requesting for engagements with government therefore its members will not complying with the directive.
And Mr Lifwekelo says it is unfair for government to put restrictions when the sector has not been supported financially during this period.
He says regardless of the association requesting for the stimulus package, their calls has fallen on deaf ears.
The ministry of health permanent Kennedy Malama says the measures are temporal therefore stakeholders in various sectors should comply.
