Government says 9 percent of the total population smoke tobacco everyday

Government is concerned that the tobacco use problem in the country is growing bigger as 9 percent of the total population smoke tobacco every day of their lives

Ministry of Health permanent Secretary for Technical Services Kennedy Malama says it is therefore saddening to note that tobacco smokers in Zambia would have learnt how to smoke tobacco at a very tender age of 15 years.

Dr Malama said this as Zambia commemorates belatedly the World No Tobacco Day under the Theme ““Commit to Quit”.

He has since implore everyone to reflect seriously on the tobacco use challenge and the health consequences of tobacco smoke on nearby non-smokers particularly children.
