Resident DOCTORS Association advised to form labor union

Ministry of Labour and Social Services Permanent Secretary, Chanda Kaziya has advised residents doctors to form a labour union so that their concerns can be addressed.
Mr. Kaziya says the Resident Doctors Association was a staff and professional association and could not handle labour matters.
He also stated that Doctors and other health professionals form part of the essential services and cannot go on strike without a court order.
He says the law criminalizes industrial dispute for essential workers to proceed on strike without a court order.
He advised Doctors to resolve the case of their salary areas amicably as many civil servants are owed areas as part of the local debt.
He said, government has a plan to dismantle the local debt including emoluments and allowances owed for civil servants, including health personnel.
He said the RDAZ is not duly constituted as the matter they are seeking to resolve was a trade union matter.
