A PEASANT farmer who was facing a charge of assault on a child has been slapped with five years’ imprisonment with hard labour in the Kasama High Court.
Stephen Chileshe, aged 34 of Chambata Village in Luwingu was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm on a child for beating up a-12-year-old boy.
During trial in the Luwingu Magistrates’ Court, the minor narrated that he was living with his aunt and that on 19 April 2020 his uncle Chileshe asked him to surrender the sun-glasses to him.
When he refused to do so, Chileshe beat him up.
After the trial, Chileshe was found guilty and committed to the High Court for sentencing, owing to the fact that the sentence was beyond the jurisdiction of the trial court.
Chileshe was sentenced by Ndola-based High Court judge, Justice Emeria Sunkutu who is sitting in the Kasama High Court.
