THE long-awaited books for Buchi Library from Books for Africa of the United States have finally arrived in Kitwe.

Buchi-Kamitondo Childhood Association (BUKACHA) received a consignment of 22,000 books of which 7000 have already been donated to some institutions leaving a balance of 15, 000 books.

BUKACA is a non-political organisation committed to improving the welfare of residents of Buchi and Kamitindo Township.

In June 2018, the organisation carried out a fundraising venture to raise money for the restocking of the library.

Speaking when handing over the books to the library, BUKACA Vice Chairperson Dominic Muswala was elated that the restocking of the library had finally taken root and thanked individuals and  organisationsthat made contributions to the promotion of the project.

“The Buchi-Kamitondo Childhood Association embarked on the project in October 2016, which we see as a reality today. We believe that a proper education system plays an essential role in shaping our future and professional careers,” Dr Muswala said.

He said the books would benefit students, teachers and lecturers of Buseko, Kawama, Kamitondo, Kitwe Boys Secondary, Hellen Kaunda Secondary, Copperbelt University and Kitwe School of Nursing.

Dr Muswala appealed to the Kitwe City Council to ensure that there was enhanced security at the library.

Kitwe Mayor Christopher Kang’ombe assured the association of a long lasting cooperation with the council.

“We can assure you that the local authority will always open its doors to you should you need anything,” the Mayor said.
