‘Kashala should step aside’

ADRIAN Kashala must step aside as general secretary of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to pave way for smooth investigation following revelations that he was being probed for money laundering activities by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC).

Former FAZ executive committee member Blackwell Siwale said Kashala must show leadership by stepping aside and allow for thorough investigations.

He noted that the DEC was not after FAZ but Kashala as an individual and that his being investigated was a matter of public interest and that as a former police officer required high level of integrity and hence the need to step aside.

Siwale said that if Kashala was cleared he could return to his job.

“DEC is not after FAZ but they are after Kashala as a person and therefore his being investigated, first of all you appreciate that he is a retired police officer and that requires a high level of integrity and so is his current job. So I would urge him to step aside to pave way for smooth investigations and if he is cleared he can return and the law must take its course.”

But FAZ vice president Rix Mweemba said there was no need for Kashala to resign as his charges were merely innuendos by people wanting to tarnish his name.

DEC public relations officer Theresa Katongo said Kashala was being investigated for obtaining pecuniary advantage and money laundering activities.
