Detained pregnant teen’s dad reports boyfriend for defilement

THE story of a 17-year-old pregnant girl who burnt a one year eight months baby with cooking oil has taken a twist after the father of the girl reported her boyfriend to the police for defilement.

Purity Mainza, who is seven months pregnant, is in police custody after she poured hot cooking oil on a baby after picking a quarrel with her boyfriend.

But father to the girl, Colins Buumba, has reported the boy, Junior Nyekese, to the police for allegedly defiling his daughter.

Relative close to the girl said that it is shocking that Mr Buumba has reported the boy to the police after the issue of the pregnancy was resolved.

He said that after Purity became pregnant and named Junior as being responsible, the two families sat down and resolved the matter.

He said that the family is surprised that Mr Buumba has now raised the issue of defilement.

By press time Junior, who is 19-years-old, was detained at Kabangwe police post.

Meanwhile, the burn victim who is a one year eight months is still admitted at the University Teaching Hospital nursing burns on the face and at the back while Purity is in police custody.

Last week, a fight saw the pregnant teen throw a pan containing hot cooking oil which aimed at Junior but unfortunately the contents landed on his one year eight month sibling.

An eye witness, said that the baby sustained burns on the face and was rushed to University Teaching Hospital.

She explained that Purity and her boyfriend have been having fights since she became pregnant.

Earlier, Zambia police spokesperson Esther Katongo confirmed the development in a telephone interview.

“A case of assault on a child which occurred on Saturday May 2 in which a female juvenile Purity Mainza aged 17 yrs. old did have a misunderstanding with her boyfriend.

“In the process she got hot cooking oil and wanted to pour on his boyfriend and the boyfriend managed to run away and the cooking oil landed on the 1 year 8 months baby whose identity we have withheld. 

“An arrest has been made and accused is detained at Ngwerere Police station.
