Betway made a donation of K94, 950 to Lusaka Helps, an organisation which provides meal packs for medical personnel at the Levy Mwanawasa Hospital isolation centre, while the Lucy Mlewa Memorial Foundation was given K101, 513.

During a cheque presentation in Lusaka, Betway Zambia country director Panji Kakube, said the company had set aside K300, 000 to help in the fight against Covid-19 beginning at community level.

“The betting giant has based its donation on the critical need to keep people healthy in the community. While the entire world is reeling from this pandemic, it is encouraging to see the noble efforts being made by those tasked with keeping us healthy (medical personal),” Kakube said.

He admitted that Covid-19 had financially affected the company’s financially but was hopeful this phase would pass.

Lusaka Helps representative Neha Bhandari thanked Betway for the donation and said it will increase the meal pack deliveries to three-times a week for a period of eight weeks.

Lucy Mlewa Memorial Foundation director Msaiwale Mlewa said they will use the money to not only buy medical supplies but to drill a community borehole to ensure access to clean water.

“The donation will be channelled towards one community borehole, 20 foot-operated hand-washing stations, 20 boxes of liquid soap, 20 boxes of sanitizer, 20 boxes of chlorine, 20 boxes of disinfectant and 200 water-collection buckets,” Mlewa said.
