A WOMAN of Lusaka’s Ng’ombe Township, has been ordered by the Matero Local Court to compensate her ex-lover’s wife K3,000 for saying she uses mankwala yankumba to make him love her.
Hilda Phiri, 30, of Foxdale residential area, had sued Chipo Malipande for defamation of character.
Phiri told Magistrate Pauline Newa that she knew Malipande because when she separated from her husband, she (Malipande) became her husband’s lover.
“My husband has two children with her and she brought them to us herself saying, she was unable to look after them, but later came to my house to collect them and I refused,” she said.
“I went into the house and she followed me to my matrimonial room, and we started fighting. The neighbors came and took her outside but before she left, she said I had given my husband mankwala yankumba for him to love me,” said Phiri
Malipande, in her statement, accepted having made the comment.
“When I went there, I only wanted to collect the children because there was a day I saw my six-year-old child selling frozen drinks, and it hurt me. So I wanted to keep them myself. My husband called them to ask for the children but they refused that’s why I went there,” Malupande said
She said Phiri’s husband usually told the children that she was not their mother.
“I went inside because I wanted to collect my children but she called me a prostitute and I responded that she was the one that used love portion on her husband when he was my lover,” said Malipande.
“These are not good word’s even Phiri’s husband’s family will not be happy to hear that, you took the children there you should have brought the case to court for child custody,” observed the magistrate
“You will compensate her K3, 000 so that you change, effective October month-end,” said Magistrate Newa.
