THE Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) have started relief food to Chongwe, says district commissioner Robster Mwanza.

Mr. Mwanza said this during an interview with the Sun after he visited the warehouse to check on the supplies received so far.

He was happy to inform the residents and all stakeholders in the district that, distribution of food relief distribution would commence soon.

He said that, the distribution of the mealie meal and maize bran would be done after the entire consignment was delivered.

“We have so far received 4,000 x 12.5kg of mealie meal and 400 x 25Kg maize bran from DMMU as we wait for the balance to start distribution in all the 19 wards in the district,” he said.

Mr Mwanza explained the maize bran was meant for feeding livestock.

He therefore advised the residents not to fall prey to misinformation as it was possible for doomsayers to allege that, the maize bran was for human consumption.

The DC thanked government for allocating the stock feed and mealie for animal and human consumption respectively.

He said government was committed to ensuring that it mitigated the nutritional challenges in all needy parts of Zambia

He was grateful that, government had also gone further to even take care of the livestock.

He said that was a sign that government was willing to go an extra mile in improving the livelihood of all the citizens.
