A LUSAKA woman has testified that her husband was in the habit of putting condoms at the door and tells people that she owns them to depict her as a prostitute.

This was in a case in which Moola Sitwala, 31, of Chaisa compound sued her husband Christopher Yuyi, 39 for divorce after separating for a week.

Yuyi married Sitwala in 2009 after paying dowry and they have two children.

Sitwala told Matero Local Court Senior Magistrates Pauline Newa sitting with Harriet Mulenga that problems started in 2010 because Yuyi would just work for two weeks or one month and stopped and took to beer drinking.

She said it was Yuyi’s parents who paid their rentals and that he failed to take children to school.

She said she survived from doing piece works to buy food and that Yuyi had failed to buy clothes for his children.

She said when Yuyi was drunk he carried an iron bar and chases her adding that at one time he beat her with an iron bar and she fainted.

“When we differ Yuyi gets condoms and put them at the door and tells people that they are mine, saying I am a prostitute. The other time Yuyi wanted to push an iron bar in my private part but it hit my thigh,’’ Sitwala said.

She said Yuyi told people in the community that she was on ARVs because she was a prostitute.

Sitwala said when Yuyi did not find food he told his parents and went to eat at his parents.

In defence Yuyi said problems started in 2019 when Sitwala developed a habit of beer drinking because she came home at between 01.00 hours and 02.00 hours.

He just scolded Sitwala and said she lied that he beats her and that he never wanted to push an iron bar into her private part.

The matter comes up on September 30 for judgment.
