A LUSAKA woman has been reconciliation with her husband after accusing him of bringing money for food at night and wanting her to go to the village to give birth.

This was in a case in which Jennipher Mwale, 22 of Lusaka’s Garden Township sued her husband Joseph Phiri, 42, for reconciliation.

Phiri married Mwale in March 2019 after paying dowry and presently Mwale is six months pregnant.

Mwale told Matero Local Court Senior Magistrate Pauline Newa that when she was three months pregnant Phiri started telling her that she should go to the village to give birth from there.

She said Phiri did not leave food and had not bought clothes for the baby, adding that when she sued him that was when he gave her K400 in the morning to buy clothes for the baby and food for herself.

“Phiri gives me money for food at night after he comes from work and I don’t know his salary because he hasn’t shown me his pay slip,” Mwale said.

In defence, Phiri said they stayed well with Mwale and promised to buy clothes for the baby at the month end, adding that some of layette had already been bought by his wife after he gave her money.

He did not have a salary because all what he did were mere piece works which entitled him to weekly payments.

In submission, Mwale said she wanted Phiri to buy clothes for the baby and that he should be leaving money for food and refused to go to the village to give birth.

But Phiri insisted that Mwale should go to the village or to bring someone to wait for her delivery and ensure that she ate well.

The court said there was lack of communication because Phiri was supposed to tell Mwale that he had debts and to show her the money he got from his piece works and make a budget together.

The court reconciled the couple and urged them to live in harmony.
