ROAD rehabilitation has kicked off in Chasefu district of Eastern Province to ease transportation of goods and movement of people, says council secretary Raphael Phiri.

Mr Phiri said the action had been taken because many roads in the district were in a deplorable state and required urgent attention for the council to efficiently service the community.

He said because of the poor state of some of the roads, transportation of general goods, agriculture produce and other social amenities in the area had become a big challenge.

Speaking recently Mr Phiri said the areas whose roads were being worked on in the districts were Nkhanga to Chizingizi, Chasefu to Magonde and Chiginya Phikmalaza roads respectively.

Mr Phiri said that road rehabilitation was part of the capital projects that the council was undertaking this year using part of the equalization fund that was usually sent to the council from central government.

“With the help of the community, we have embarked on the improvement of roads in the district aimed at easing movement of agriculture produce and farming inputs,” he said.

Meanwhile residents in the area have expressed happiness that the council had given them jobs during the period of improving the roads and fulfillment of the council’s role in service delivery in the selected parts where the project wass being implemented.
