UNDER-23 QUALIFICATION TO 2019 AFCON CHEERS GOVT

The Zambia under national soccer team has won praised from sports Government over its qualification to the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Egypt.

Minister of Sport, Youth and Child Development Emmanuel Mulenga also congratulated FAZ  for making sure that the team qualified to the Egypt 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

In a letter to FAZ president Andrew Kamanga, Mulenga hailed the U-23 national team for their heroics that earned them a spot at the eight-team tournament slated for Egypt in November.

The Minister also extended his congratulations to the African Nations Championship (CHAN) team for their first leg away victory to eSwatini in the final qualifying round.

The final leg was planned for the National Heroes Stadium on October 19 in Lusaka, with the winner over two legs qualifying to the CHAN 2020 tournament in Cameroon.

Mulenga praised FAZ for having facilitated the participation of various national teams.

The tournament would also be used as a qualifier for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

He said the team exhibited an outstanding performance, both at home and away games.

“I also wish the senior men’s football team the best performance during their last qualifier match against eSwatini on October 19. It is my sincere hope that they will qualify for the CHAN tournament which will be hosted by Cameroon in 2020,

“Allow me also to take this opportunity to thank you and the executive committee for facilitating the participation of the various teams at the competitions,” he said.

The Under-23 booked their ticket to Egypt on September 8 after defeating Congo Brazzaville 5-4 on aggregate while the CHAN team was on the verge of CHAN qualification with one more home tie to play next month against eSwatini.
