MAN ADMITS THREATENING TO ‘KNIFE’ GRANNY

A Lusaka man has pleaded guilty to the charge of threatening violence in the Lusaka Magistrate Court.
This is in a matter Eric Chanda, 30, of Libala residential area, is alleged to have threatened violence to Henry Katongo during an argument on Aug. 10.
Chanda who initially denied the charge, later confessed to having threatened violence to Mr Katongo, his grandfather, after the magistrate, Victoria Chitulangoma, decided to again read the charge to him.Chanda threatened to kills Mr. Katonga by stabbing him with a knife.
Magistrate Chitulangoma: Do you know Mr. Katongo?
Chanda: Yes, I know Mr. Katongo. He is my grandfather.
Magistrate Chitulangoma: At whose house were you on the August 10?
Chanda: I was at my grandfather’s house, Mr. Katongo.
Magistrate Chitulangoma: Why did you go to do at Mr. Katongo’s house?
Chanda: I went there to request for my parents property and that’s how an argument started.
Magistrate Chitulangoma: Did you threaten Mr. Katongo and what are the exact words you used?
Chanda: Yes I threatened him. (Chanda failed to say the exact words he used to threaten Mr. Katongo).
Magistrate Chitulangoma: Did you threaten to kill Mr. Katongo.
Chanda: No.
Magistrate Chitulangoma: Did you have any lawful justification for your actions.
Chanda: No, no one permitted me to do what I did.
The matter will come up on September 26 for continued trial.
