THE Boma Local Court in Lusaka has ordered a businessman of SOS to pay his former landlord rental arrears of K3, 500.

This was a case in which John Mumba, 69 of Makeni took Christopher Mupika, 51 to court to recover his rental arrears.

Mumba told senior local court magistrate George Kaoma that Mupika was his tenant from 2017 to 2019 and was always giving him problems in paying rental.

“I brought him here because of communication breakdown. He’s never paid me well and it’s always been a matter of reminding him. One time six months passed without paying me.

He moved out of my house and now owes me K3, 500,

“When he moved out of the house, it became even more difficult to talk to him. He promises all the time but doesn’t pay.  After I bought the summons, he told me to reverse my decision and that my money was ready but he still never brought it,” he said.

He said he was forced to sue Mupika to avoid further complications between them.

He explained that Mupika owed him K3, 000 for rentals but he added an extra K500 for damages left in the house.

In defence Mupika however told the court that he and Mumba related very well and he rarely defaulted.

“It’s only in February this year when I had some problems and owed him K1, 000 balance for January which I later paid. Towards the end of February he asked me to leave saying he found another tenant who had already paid,” he said.

He said he owed Mumba K3, 000 which he was going to pay but just having some problems.

The court granted Mumba his wish and ordered Mupika to pay him K3, 500 rental arrears through the court.
