Doubts in Ghana over coup plot claim

A leading security analyst in Ghana has cast doubts on government claims of a coup plot.
Adam Bonah told the BBC that factors which normally lead to an attempt to overthrow the government – such as massive fuel shortages and “mass agitations” – were not present.
“We are nowhere close to a coup. You need the people. It is simply impossible,” he added.
The ministry of information said a 15-month investigation by security officers had uncovered a plot to “take over the reins of government”.
On Twitter, a prominent Ghanaian broadcast journalist also cast doubts on the government’s claim
Ghana is considered one of the more stable countries in West Africa since its transition to multi-party democracy in 1992, putting a succession of destabilising coups behind it.
