Mob sets ablaze woman’s body, coffin over claims she was a witch

A woman’s body was burnt by angry boda boda riders in Bungoma County over claims she was a witch.
According to the riders, the woman was responsible for the deaths of at least eight members of a family.
The body of Everlyne Akinyi, 56, had been transported to her matrimonial home in Burangasi village in Bumula sub-county for burial before the riders stormed and burnt the body and the casket.
John Wafula, an in-law to the woman said the riders first attacked Akinyi in May with crude weapons and later burnt her matrimonial home.
They accused her of witchcraft after the eighth child of her co-wife died in mysterious circumstances.
“Police from Bumula Police Station intervened and dispersed the attackers using teargas canisters,” said Wafula.
Mr Wycliffe Khaemba, the widower, said they took the wife who was in a coma to Bungoma County Teaching and Referral Hospital where she was admitted for two months before succumbing to injuries inflicted on her
