ZAMBEEF DRIVER TAKES OWN LIFE

A ZAMBEEF Products Plc driver of Chisamba branch has  reportedly committed suicide for unknown reasons.   

The victim, identified as Elvis Malokota, 48, who was on duty parked the truck he was driving by the road side between Dallas Farms and Chikankata turn-off and allegedly hanged himself in the nearby bush using a ratchet belt.

Police public relations officer Esther Katongo confirmed the incident to the Sun in a statement.

Ms Katongo said the suicide which happened on Tuesday this week at unknown time, was reported to Police yesterday by a company official in Chisamba.

She said on the material day, Malokota left Chisamba around 08:00 hours driving a company motor vehicle DAF registration AHB 6458(Horse) AAG 929(Trailer) for  Zambia Sugar Estates in Mazabuka to load molasses.

“But on the way Malokota is alleged to have parked the motor vehicle by the road side and committed suicide by hanging himself in the bush using a ratchet belt,” she said.

She said the reason for taking his own life has not yet been established, but that the man called his wife to inform his employer to go and pick their motor vehicle and that it was the last time she heard from him.

Ms Katongo said Police visited the scene and found the body hanging on a tree.

The Police spokesperson said the body was deposited in Mazabuka General Hospital mortuary.
