MALAWIANS ARRESTED CARRYING HUMAN BONES

Written by on September 11, 2019

Two Malawians have been detained in Mozambique’s northern province of Niassa after they were found in possession of 12 human bones, police say.

They were arrested last week but police made the announcement on Monday.

Police spokesperson in Niassa province Alves Mathe said the suspects had exhumed the bones and were planning to sell them.

Human bones, particularly those of people with albinism, are used for witchcraft across southern Africa, including Mozambique.

Albino bones are falsely believed to be made of gold dust and are used as an ingredient to make charms purporting to bring good luck.
