WATER blues in the district would soon be a thing of the past, Chongwe District Commissioner, Robster Mwanza, has assured residents of the area.
Mr Mwanza told the Sun in an interview the water shortage in Chongwe would end by the end of October as the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) has now sourced the pipes to enable it complete the project.
Mr Mwanza emphasized government was deeply concerned about the water situation in the area and was therefore doing all it could to end the crisis.
He appealed to the residents to remain calm as government worked on the water supply problem.
He thanked President Lungu for supporting the project and assured that the remaining money for the project would be received soon.
Meanwhile, the people have cancelled a planned protest over the water shortage in the district which was scheduled for September 9.
Robert Mubanga, a resident of Libuko Village, one of the organisers of the planned protest, said the people decided to cancel it because it would be meaningless after the assurance by government.
President Lungu visited the Chongwe CBD Market on Sunday and the would be completed soon.
Mr. Mubanga stressed that, the planned protest was going to be a peaceful match to appeal for government quick action.
He said the protest was cancelled to allow for the smooth execution of the project.
He however appealed to government to honour it promise as the water crisis had adversely affected the residents.
