LWSC EXPLAINS ERRATIC WATER SUPPLY

THE current erratic water supply to many residential areas of Lusaka are a result of falling water levels of underground water, says Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) managing director Jonathan Kampata.
Mr Kampata said drying water boreholes was making the water utility company not to supply adequate water to its customers.
In an interview with the Sun, Mr Kampata said most communities supplied by boreholes such as Chelstone, Chudleigh, Ng’ombe and others had been affected because the water tables were low.
“They are a number of reasons that has led to some communities in selected parts of Lusaka to experience erratic water supply and the main one being falling levels in our underground water,” he said.
Mr Kampata said even if there was no load shedding, there was still no enough water to pump from the boreholes because the levels had really gone down.
LWSC has been forced to switch off some pumps at some selected borehole sites.
He said the company was presently doing an assessment on all its boreholes in Lusaka and issue a comprehensive report before the end of the week.
Mr Kampata called all customers to reserve water as the hot season was approaching as it was anticipated that more boreholes would dry up.
