GUARD DENIES STEALING FROM JUDGE

A SECURITY guard has pleaded not guilty to one count of stealing from Lusaka High Court Judge Sunday Nkonde.
Before Lusaka Principal Resident Magistrate Lameck Mwale yesterday was Afelo Banda, 34, who told the court that he works for a security company owned by Bread of Life International Church presiding Bishop Joe Imakando.
Banda, of Kalingalinga Township, is charged with burglary and theft, contrary to Section 272 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Particulars of offence are that during the night of July 18, Banda broke into Judge Nkonde’s house and stole from there K20, 000 cash, a Judiciary laptop note book valued at K8, 000, three wrist watches valued at US$2,700, two blue De channel perfumes valued at US$200, and one set of WAHL deluxe shaving kit valued at K550 altogether valued at K55, 594.00.
The case has been adjourned to October 1 for start of trial and Banda’s police bond was extended.
In the same court, a 24-year-old man of Kanyama Township has denied two counts of stealing from Deeper Life Church on two occasions.
David Lombe is charged with breaking into a building and committing a felony.
Particulars of offence in the first count are that on August 5, Lombe broke into Deeper Life Church building and stole a plasma television set, seven mattresses, and two carpets altogether valued at K13, 214.00 the property of Deeper Life Church.
In the second count Lombe broke into the same building and stole three curtains, a keyboard, and one bicycle altogether valued at K10, 850 the property of the same Church.
Trial will start on September 24 and Lombe was remanded in custody as he has no one to sign bail for him.
