CHONGWE EXPECTS CHEAPER MEALIE MEAL

THE Chinese funded milling will help stabilise mealie meal prices, Chongwe deputy mayor Evans Mhambi has said.
Mr Mumbi said in interview the milling plant, one of the three to be installed in two other towns, was commissioned by President Lungu early this year.
He thanked Government for choosing Chongwe as one of the beneficiaries of the investment.
Mr Mhambi described the project as one of the milestones in the development of the industrial base of the district.
“The milling plant being constructed in Ntandabale Ward of Chongwe is on course. It has created employment for the locals during the construction period. It will undoubtedly go a long way in enhancing the industrialisation agenda in the district,” he said.
Mr Mhambi, who is Chongwe district PF chairman, said the milling plant would help stabilise the price of mealie meal in the district once completed and operational.
He attributed the current high prices of mealie meal prices to unjustified profit-seeking by some millers, which could only be overcome through such initiatives.
Mr Mumbi hoped the project would be completed on schedule.
He said he could not wait to see the construction completed on schedule so that the benefits could begin to show in the district and beyond.
Ntandabale Ward councillor Kapichila Chiwinga said the district being a farming community would also have a ready market for agricultural produce. Mr Chiwinga was happy with the speedy execution of the project.
He said the plant would create employment for the local people.
