ALL SET FOR ‘MALARIA’ BOXING TOURNEY

ALL is set for this evening’s InterXity Boxing Academy knock out malaria tournament which will see Zambia’s Hillary Kataya and Malawi’s Hannock Phiri compete for the main bout.

Tournament promoter Eddie Gowa said that all was set for the fight which has attracted seven other fights.

And Malawi’s Phiri who fondly called the “Hard knocker” said he was in Zambia to win the vacant World Professional Boxing slot.

Phiri said that he was not intimidated by his opponent as he was confident of emerging triumphant this evening.

“I’ve come all the way from the U.K where I’m based, I’m a proud Malawian and African , that’s why i had to come all the way from my base in the U.K to take part in this fight and off Couse win it,” 

“I’m not intimidated by my opponent in any way, i have a record of 5 games with 4 wins and 1 loss,” Phiri said.

And Phiri’s opponent Hillary Kataya said he was confident of beat his opponent and make his Boxing stables and the local fans proud.

Fight promoter Gowa expressed confidence of hosting a successful fight saying they had done 98 percent of the work.

He said the tournament was a fulfillment of his Academy’s objective which was to rehabilitate street kids.

Gowa said being from the streets himself, he wanted to help transform other street children by empowering them through sport and education.

He said that majority of the young Boxers under his academy had been sent to school and were combining both sport and education.

Meanwhile academy director Francis Muchemwa said that K100 000 had been set aside and given to the boxing control board as price money for the fight.

Muchemwa called on fans to turn up in numbers and support the tournament.

The fight is  InterXity debut tournament which is being organized in collaboration with the ministry of Health to combat Malaria.

The event has also attracted a women National Bout which is being competed for by Catherine Mulyata and Lumano siamuchi.
