KALEEN Swimming Club head coach Chris Daka says the Teulings Swim Challenge which the OYDC Zambia hosts will help many young swimmers develop their skills.
Daka said the continued participation of young swimmers in the youth league would qualify them to start participating in the Zambia Swimming Union (ZASU) organised swimming galas.
The coach, whose swimmers took part in the Teulings Swim Challenge on Saturday at the OYDC, said it was motivating to see a number of young swimmers splashing waters and clocking impressive times.
He said Coen Teulings, chairman of the Merifin Capital in Belgium through the OYDC Zambia, was helping many young underprivileged children.
He said the Tuelings was helping the underprivlidged children by allowing them to take part in well-organised youth league games.
One of the swimmers, Emmanuel Banda, said he found swimming to be an interesting sport.
Banda said he was happy that his coach had given him a chance to compete for his swimming club.
Banda competed in the 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke.
OYDC Zambia programmes officer Mellisa Majonga said the centre remained committed to helping young athletes.
Majonga said the athletes who are part of the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge would develop their skills and become professional swimmers in future.
She said the OYDC was receiving good response from teams that usually took part in the Youth Sports Challenge.
The challenge involved five sports disciplines which included beach volleyball, netball, taekwondo, hockey and swimming.
The competition on Saturday attracted over 50 swimmers from Lusaka Sharks, Kaleen Swimming Club and many other schools.
