GET RID OF STRAY DOGS, ORDERS DC

Zambezi,- Acting Zambezi District Commissioner, Sombo Chiteta has appealed to the local authority to work together with the police in order to get rid of stray dogs in the area.
Mrs. Chiteta told ZANIS in Zambezi on Friday that there has been escalating cases of dog bites from the residents, a situation she described as worrisome.
She stated that the earlier the council gets on the ground to get rid of stray dogs the better.
Mrs Chiteta added that the council secretary should sensitize the residents on how many dogs a household is required to keep.
She said more sensitization is required to the community to be confining their dogs and release them later in the night.
And acting Zambezi Town Council Secretary, Maurice Mandabe said officers are already on the ground to investigate the same cases adding that a report would be given to the district administration.
Mr. Mandabe said the council was ready to get rid of the stray dogs soon after the officers are done with investigations.
Speaking earlier, Livestock Production Officer, Numwa Numwa disclosed his department has recorded over 15 cases of dog bites for the past three months.
Mr. Numwa explained that most cases of dog bites take place in Kakosa area where there was an abattoir for the council.
He however, stated that there has not been any case of rabies among the ones that have been reported so far.
Mr. Numwa further explained that the veterinary department issues certificates to residents that vaccinate their dogs and that they keep records. – ZANIS
