ABOUT 750 pockets of cement have been donated to the youth and women’s community clubs of Ndola’s Itawa/ Ndeke and Mushili wards in an effort to empower them.

Ndola’s Bwana Mkubwa area Member of Parliament Jonas Chanda donated the cement for the project to raise start-up capital for the youth and women of the ward.

The cement project was expected empower the youth and women to expand their entrepreneurial business ideas like block-making and wholesale cement selling.

According to a statement issued by Dr Chanda to Sun, each club was made of about 30 members.

Among the clubs that received cement included 100pockets to Ndeke Township, 100 pockets to Mushili and the other 150 pockets to another women club within Mushili Township.

“I will be swaying the cement producing companies like Zambezi Portland, Dangote and Chilanga Lafarge to register our community clubs for preferential treatment so that they can buy cement as subsidized wholesale prices, which is good corporate social responsibility (CSR),” Dr Chanda said.

He also said the number of beneficiaries for cement empowerment was in addition to the earlier chicken rearing empowerment project from the 2017 CDF which he gave out to the community clubs in seven different wards.
