MECHANIC JAILED 9 MONTHS FOR DISTRIBUTOR THEFT

A MECHANIC of Chongwe District has been sentenced to 9 months imprisonment, with hard labour, for stealing a distributor from his client’s car.
The sentence was suspended for 13 months of which 3 months were allocated to community service at the court premises.
He was also ordered to pay the complainant the sum of K3, 000.00 in damages. He was given two weeks to meet the conditions or face the jail term.
Wilson Kashimbo, 39 of Lusoke Village in Chongwe, who appeared before magistrate Masiyaleti Simvula, was charged with theft, contrary to section 272, chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the offence are that, Kashimbo, on December 5, 2019, allegedly stole a distributor from the vehicle of Given Chibale of Ibex hill area in Chongwe.
The court heard that, the complainant reportedly heard strange noise outside his house around 03:00 hours on the material day, and upon checking, she saw the accused standing near the car bonnet.
She reportedly called for help and the accused was pursued and apprehended. She said she recognised him because he had repaired her car before.
The accused told the court, that the complainant owed him K800.00 for mechanical services he provided to her. The complainant agreed to the statement but said she had promised to pay the dues.
The court found the accused guilty based on convincing evidence by the prosecution witnesses and convicted him accordingly.
