WILDLIFE offences in Chinsali District have increased and have become extremely worrisome, says Chinsali Subordinate Court Magistrate Julius Malata.

Magistrate Malata said this when he jailed

Joel Mwiimba, 44 to three years in prison  with hard labour for unlawful possession of government trophy.

Mwiimba was sent to prison after he was convicted for being in possession of in illegal possession of 26 pieces of dried buffalo meat weight 37 kilos.

This is according to a statement from Ministry of Tourism and Arts Public Relations Officer Sakabilo Kalembwe.

And in Kaoma, the Subordinate Court convicted and jailed Nyambe Njamba,32 to five years imprisonment for being in unlawful possession of  a lion skeleton.

In another case, the Court also sentenced two men of Nkeyema district in Western Province to five years imprisonment with hard labour for illegal possession of dried game meat weighing 98 kilogrammes.

Those jailed are Mubita Nawa,24 and Kahilu Tolopo Lyalui 54 who were found  with (kudu and hartebeest meat.

 The court handed the duo a five-year prison sentence on the first charge and a two-year jail sentence for each of the other charges.

The sentences are to run concurrently, meaning the two will serve a maximum of five years imprisonment.
