Suspected wife killer charged with murder

A 50-year-old man who allegedly murdered his wife and stuffed her under the bed in a plastic bag has appeared in the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court on one count of murder.

Watson Ng’ambi, a bricklayer of Lusaka’s Kabanana Township, is charged with murder contrary to Section 200 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence are that on unknown dates but between July 17 and 19, Ng’ambi murdered Agnes Chabala Ng’ambi.

Ng’ambi, who is in police custody appeared before Chief Resident Magistrate Lameck Mwale for allocation and was smartly dressed in a pink shirt.

Magistrate Mwale allocated the matter to Magistrate Faides Hamaundu for explanation of charge.

Allegations in this matter are that Ng’ambi murdered his wife, Agnes, 41, and later wrapped her body in a black polythene bag which he hid under the bed for three months.

According to Police spokesperson, Esther Katongo, the matter was reported to Chipwalo Police Post on July 03 at 12:00 hours.

She said Police launched a man hunt for Ng’ambi after the incident, which happened between 22:00 hours and 23:00 hours in Kabanana Township on April 19.

She explained that the general public apprehended Ng’ambi and surrendered him to the police.

Ms Katongo said the half-naked body had a broken left leg and was found to be in decomposed state when police conducted physical inspection.

She said police also found a blood stained machete and axe at the scene, suspected to have been used during the act.

Ms Katongo thanked the public for its alertness and quick response to fighting crime saying that policing was a collective responsibility.

She urged them to continue collaborating with the police in fighting crime.
