Zanaco in injury scare

ZAMBIA’S envoys in the CAF Confederations Cup, Zanaco have been hit by an injury scare ahead of the start of the new soccer season later this month.
The bankers confirmed that newly signed striker Emmanuel Okutu would be sidelined for at least a week following a knee injury.
According to a statement by the club’s media office, the former Kabwe Warriors top man suffered a soft tissue injury on his right knee during the Mufulira Wanderers vs Zanaco friendly match played in Mufulira last week.
Okutu is set to recover from the knock in the next seven days before the Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu charity shield as sensational Zanaco face the reigning Zambian super league champions Zesco United at woodlands Stadium on the August 17.
“Emmanuel Okutu suffered a soft tissue injury on his right knee during Mufulira Wanderers-Zanaco friendly match in Mufulira,” read the statement.
Okutu is set to recover from the knock in the next seven days.
Moussa Souleymanou is also out action for a few days with a left middle toe soft tissue injury,” read part of the statement.
Meanwhile, defender Peter Banda was yet to fully recover after the PoP cast was removed and will be in an ankle brace for eight weeks.
The defender is set to miss the first games of the season for complete healing to take place.
Former captain Ziyo Tembo, who has returned to the club after a one-year contract with Saudi Arabian second division side Al Shoula FC, is back in training after recovering from an injury.
Other players who have also returned are Jimmy Nakena, Julius Situmbeko, Mwansa Nsofwa and Romaric Pitroipa.
Zanaco are on bye in the CAF Confederations Cup and will join the competition in the second round later this month.
