POLICE in Mpika District have arrested a 34 year old Mpika businessman for trespassing at a local graveyard after he was found in white rob and standing on the grave with lit candles around him.

Muchinga province Police Commissioner Joel Njase confirmed the arrest of Nathan Kaonga 34 of Malashi village in Chief Chikwanda’s area.

Mr Njase said the suspect was found dressed in a white rob and standing on the grave with lit candles.

“Criminal trespass at a burial site occurred on Monday around 00:30 at Malashi village graveyard in Chief Chikwanda’s area of Mpika district.’’ Mr Njase said

Mr Njase said Saidi Phiri 39 of Malashi village reported that he found Kaonga standing on the grave with burning candles around him.

He said Phiri told police that the suspect runaway upon seeing him leaving behind a number of items on the grave.

“Police received a report on Tuesday around 01:30 hour from Saidi Phiri of Malashi village that as he was going home he met a Kaonga a  local businessman standing on grave the grave with lit candles around him,’’ he said.

 Mr Njase said police visited the scene and found 3 red candles, 2 wooden dolls covered in white cloth and four K5 notes all amounting to K20 put on the grave.

 He said the suspect has been arrested and that the docket has since been opened and would appear in court soon.
