Chirundu cries for workable by-laws

Mr Sianduba particularly implored residents of Manyepa village of Sikoongo chiefdom to help formulate regulations that would not come into conflict with existing ones such as fisheries Act.
He was speaking at launch of a two-day consultative meeting aimed at improving anti-poaching and compatible land use in the lower Zambezi in partnership with the European Union and African Wildlife Foundation AWF with various sub-guarantee organisations in Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Mr. Sianduba said sustainable development required policies and economic incentives and practical tools so that fish was safe guarded.
He said warned that those who refused to abide by regulations would be punished by the measures that the community would suggest.
Mr Sianduba urged the Manyepa community to improve fisheries management and work with the ministry of fisheries and Livestock.
He stressed that the livelihoods of people in the village depended on fishing to a larger extent.
“Therefore, it is important to avoid bad methods of fishing that can result in both depletion of fish and slow development,” he said
Mr. Sianduba urged all residents to safeguard the water bodies jealously so that the next generation should come and benefit from the same activities they were enjoying.
And Chirundu district fisheries and livestock coordinator Mr Noah Sinkala has bemoaned the use of bad fishing methods which depleted fish in the rivers and lakes of Zambia
Mr. Sinkala urged the gathering to embrace initiatives government was putting in place to enhance and promote aqua-culture in Zambia.
