DEMOTED super league side Maestro United has expressed reservation on the number of teams to take part in the upcoming 2019/2020 super division season expected to start on August 17.

Club proprietor Keith Mweemba said that the reason advanced by FAZ to reduce the number of teams in the super league was not convincing.

Mweemba said that the decision was simply serving the purpose of disadvantaging teams in the lower rank leagues.

He appealed to FAZ to consider including the issue of the football calendar as an item for a consultative meeting which should allow a democratic discussion as to whether or not the decision to reduce the number of teams should be revisited.

“The ABSA Cup is  a competition which was restrictive as regards to the number of teams participating in it, I still insist and  convinced beyond any shadow of doubt that for football to develop we need a wide base from which to select players to all our national teams,” said Mweemba

The Mazabuka based team proprietor said the number of teams in the league should be maintained at 20 as that league was widely publicized and advertised through SuperSport TV and other media houses including social media platforms.

Mweemba has since written to FAZ expressing his concerns to which he has not received any response.

And according to sources within FAZ, the association was tomorrow scheduled to hold a consultative meeting where it has invited its former presidents, general secretaries and life members.
