Man who deflowered, impregnated a juvenile in hot water

FOR deflowering a 16 year old girl, a Lusaka man has been fined K7, 000 by the Boma Local Court as compensation to her parents.

Catherine Simupopo, 45, of Chazanga Township sued Fred Mwale, 32, of the same compound for virginity damage.

The two were appearing before magistrate Contildah Kamono sitting with magistrates Juliet Mwila and Sylvia Kadunda.

Simupopo told the court that Mwale damaged her 16 year old daughter’s virginity whom he impregnated.

“I discovered that my daughter was in a family way last month) and she named Mwale as being responsible for it. We called for him but he said that he did not have relatives in Lusaka.

“ But later he started sending messages shouting at her, my relatives took and left her at his place but he started beating her,” she said

Simupopo said when her family took Mwale to Lusaka Central police station he accepted responsibility but said he did not want her. That is how we were advised to come to court. I want him to pay me for the damage he has done.” said Simupopo”.

In defence Mwale told the court that he was responsible for the pregnancy.

“I only knew about the pregnancy on June 13 2018 when her daughter came to tell me that she was pregnant. She said she wanted to abort because her family would not tolerate her I tried talking to her but she insisted,

“Then her relatives brought her to my place and left without us sitting down to talk, I am not refusing the pregnancy. It is mine but we were supposed to sit and talk,” Mwale said

He was therefore surprised to receive summon, adding that he was in fact ready to marry her since his wife with whom he has three children left him in 2014.

“I will pay for the damage but I also want to marry her daughter,” said Mwale”.

Magistrate Kamono ordered Mwale to compensate Simupopo with K7, 000 effective August month end.

She however advised Simupopo not to force her daughter into marriage but to take her go back to school after giving birth.
