NAQEZ opposes mobile teaching programme

NATION Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) has objected to plans by of Ministry of General Education to introduce mobile teaching sessions.
NAQEZ Executive director, Aaron Chansa, said his organisation was opposed to the introduction of the mobile education unit as it would be strenuous on the teachers.
In a statement to the Sun yesterday, Mr Chansa said, the programme if introduced, would make pupils abandon classes for fishing or collection of caterpillars knowing the teachers would go after them and teach them from wherever they were.
He said the though the policy appeared good, it would be enslaving to the teachers who would be forced to travel to various places in search of students who would not see the need to stay in classes.
“The Ministry of Community Development, working with the church and other entities, ought to completely eradicate streetism in the country, those children staying on the streets are human beings who deserve to be taken to school, and not taking teachers to the street.” Mr Chansa said.
NAQEZ has proposed that the Ministry of General Education engages traditional leaders in stopping the practice by some rural pupils to abscond schools in preference for money making ventures like fishing and collecting caterpillars.
Mr Chansa said people, especially in rural areas, should be seriously sensitize on the importance of Education.
“That way, teachers will not have to go after pupils but the pupils will come to school instead,” he said.
