A LUSAKA woman has been divorced in the Chilenje Local Court for denying her husband conjugal rights.

John Mwakayombe, 29 of Chilenje Township sued his wife Mirriam Mwanza,26, of Jack compound for divorce

The two appeared before presiding local court magistrate Patrick Nyrienda, sitting with senior local court magistrates Ackim Phiri and Harriet Mbewe.

They got married in 2017 and have one child and have been on separation for 10 months.

Mwakayombe said they lived together for one year four months but disputes in their marriage started from the beginning.

“My wife is very stubborn and doesn’t apologise whenever she is wrong. She denies me conjugal rights and puts clothes on her private part to pretend to be having periods,

“She told me that her periods last for two weeks. She refuses me to touch her. She threatens to leave the house when we have disputes. I always have to beg her to stay,” he said.

Mwakayombe said his wife liked visiting her mother by leaving the house at 08:00 hours and returning around 18:00hours.

“I am forced to cook and feed our child. When I asked her to stop coming home late, she gets upset. She is very disrespectful to me. We have been on separation since August last year,

“I want a divorce because she doesn’t want to change her behavior,” he said.

In defence, Mwanza said from the time she got pregnant her husband started sleeping in the living room.

“I started sharing the bed with a three-year-old child he had brought to live with us. I later found love messages from another woman on his phone,

“I told his relatives about it but nothing was done and we continued living together. The other problem is that my husband wants us to be having oral sex. He wanted me to be sucking his private parts but I refused and he chased me,” she said.

The court granted divorce without compensation and ordered Mwakayombe to maintain his child with K400 per month.
