TWO minors in Kasempa district have died in a fire on their mission to kill mice in Ndayila Chiefdom, North-Western commissioner of police Hudson Namachila has confirmed.
Namachila said the incident occurred on July 16 around 14:00 hours and was reported by Leonard Kibayu a CCPU officer at Kankolonkolo.
The minors were identified as Beauty Kanyanga aged 2 years 4 months and Sara Chongola aged 2 years old.
Mr Namachila said the two went to the bush to hunt for wild rats with other elderly children when a bush fire from their village caught up with them.
“A bush fire near their village caught up with them. The older ones managed to escape the fire but the two minors due to their age failed to run and were burnt and sustained multiple fire burns all over their bodies”,
“They were rushed to Kankolonkolo health center where they died a few hours later. The scene was visited by officers and the bodies were taken to Mukinge Mission Hospital where they have been deposited in the mortuary”, he said
Mr Namachila said the people who started the fire were not yet known, adding that an inquiry file had been opened and investigations would follow.
