ZAMBIAN super league side Green Eagles coach Aggrey Chiyangi says he aims to go beyond the semifinals of the ongoing CECAFA Kagame Cup by qualifying to the finals of the competition.

The Zambian league runners up who are a guest team at the East African club competition beat Kenyan giants Gor Mahia 2-1 on Wednesday to progress to the semifinals of the competition.

Chiyangi told his players that they needed to work harder in order to go to the finals of the tournament

Eagles technical bench identified the weaknesses of the Gor Mahia side and told his charges to capitalize on those lapses.

Eagles are the fourth Zambian club to reach the semifinals of the CECAFA Clubs Championship after Green Buffaloes (1976 and 1986), Kabwe Warriors and ‘Mighty’ Mufulira Wanderers (1986) all qualified to the semifinals.

Chiyangi said Eagles would not be carried away by the victory over Gor Mahia that has pushed them into the semi-finals of the tournament.

“When you go to a tournament the bigger picture is to win the tournament,

“So far we have crossed many rivers, we are remaining with one river which we have to cross to get into the finals, we are taking every stage step by step,” he said

The Choma-based side will take on Uganda giants Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA)FC in the semifinals today.

KCCA FC beat Rwanda’s Rayon Sport to book a place in the semifinals.

Eagles will be competing in the CAF Champions league for the first time having finished runners- up in the transitional league.

The team has been using the CECAFA tournament  to prepare for their participation in the upcoming champions league which starts in August.
