THE continuing damage to water and sewer pipelines by developers such as excavations for road construction, drainages, fiber optic and boundary wall fences has become a major source of concern to the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC).

LWSC public relations officer Nshamba Muzungu said that the company was losing a lot of water from damaged pipe lines by contractors.

Mr Muzungu said that the development activities were disrupting normal water supply and as a result the company was losing business as well.

“We wish to advise all contractors and developers not to undertake any excavations adjacent to water supply and sanitation infrastructure without approval from Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company,”

“Contractors should immediately inform LWSC whenever there is damage to its infrastructure and not proceed to repair or conceal the damage, ’’ he said.

Mr Muzungu warned culprit contractors that they would not only be liable for repair costs but also for loss of business.

He said that legal action was another optiong for such damage arising from negligence and non-adherence to procedure.
