Date set in Sampa child maintenance case

THE Lusaka High Court has set July 29, 2019, as date of hearing an inter-parte application by Lusaka mayor Miles Sampa’s former wife Mwika Mwenechanya to institute contempt of court proceedings against Mr Sampa for failing to comply with court order to pay child maintenance of K7000.
Judge Nicole Sharpe – Phiri said she will hear both the alleged contemnor (Mr Sampa) and Mwenechanya on the application in chambers.
“Let the parties concerned attend before Sharpe Phiri in chambers on July 29 29 2019 for the hearing of an application by counsel against the alleged contemnor for his breach of the ruling dated 23 April 2019 whereby the alleged contemnor was ordered to pay maintenance for the child of the family.
Ms Mwenechanya wants the court to cite Sampa for alleged contempt of court for alleged failure to comply with the court order dated April 23 2019 which ordered Sampa to pay maintenance for the child of the family.
She has in this matter asked the court to order the Lusaka City Council (LCC) who are Mr Sampa’s employers to be making payments of K7, 000 monthly out of the mayor’s earnings for maintenance of their child.
Mr Sampa was recently ordered by the Lusaka High Court to be maintain his daughter at a monthly amount of K7, 000 which shall be paid before the 6th day of every month but according to Ms Mwenechanya, Mr Sampa had allegedly neglected to comply with the court order.
The court further ordered that Sampa pays the balance of US$13, 000 outstanding school fees at the American International School (AIS) and to provide a driver to be picking up the child from school and to put the child on council medical scheme.
This is in a matter in which Mwika an Economist at the Bank of Zambia (BOZ), following their divorce, asked the court to order Mr Sampa to be paying more than K30, 000 monthly for child maintenance of their daughter, among others.
