THE Ministry of Sport, Youth and Child Development should pay more attention to minor disciplines such as bowling, Lusaka Bowling Club vice chairmen Sebastian Kopulande has said.

Kopulande said despite the sport not being popularised, bowling had contributed to Zambia’s basket of medals.

He said if the Ministry of Sport came in and helped the game become popular more corporates would sponsor it.

Kopulande said it was worth noting that three women, Sophie Matipa of Central Bowling Club, Eddah Mpezeni of Kansenshi Park Bowls and Tennis Club and Getrude Siame of Nchanga Bowling Club had qualified to the 2020 World Bowls.

He said the tournament would be staged in Gold Coast, Australia, and that the women qualified to the world championship after participating in the Ladies Tripples Tournament in Cardiff, Wales, in May.

Kopulande said the fact that athletes were able to compete at World championships was a sign that the sport had the potential to grow even bigger.
