GOVERNMENT should encourage local people to invest in tourism in Western Province because there is great potential for the industry to grow and bring about economic change, says Zambian young entrepreneur Iris Kaingu.

Ms Kaingu who has invested about $10,000 in her Meno A Ngweshi  meaning “teeth of a tiger fish” pleasure resort in Sesheke said there was potential for the industry to grow.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka, Ms Kaingu said she opened up her resort early this year so that she could contribute in a positive way by encouraging people to participate in tourism and take new development to Sesheke.

“I have a new resort called Meno a Agweshi which was opened on February 9. So far we have five operating rooms. We are going to be operating at full capacity in the next three months,” she said.

She was comforted to know that once the Royal establishment declared a portion of land in the province to developers it would remain theirs for generations.

Ms Kaingu also said that she participated in the just ended International Trade Fair in Ndola under the theme “Inclusive Growth Through Entrepreneurship” in which she scoped the first price.
