K7,000 for deflowering girlfriend

THE Chilenje Local Court has ordered a Lusaka man to pay K7,000 to the mother of a girl he deflowered.
Brown Njovu, 34, general worker of Bauleni Compound was sued by Alice Phiri, 50, of the same area.
Phiri said in May Njobvu damaged her daughter’s virginity and caused her to be pregnant.
“I noticed that my daughter was sick and she told me that she was pregnant,” she said.
“I asked her who was responsible for the pregnancy and she said it was Njobvu,” Phiri said.
“I called Njobvu several times so that we could sit down from both families and charge him,” she said.
“He did not come. He refused to humble himself. That’s why I was forced to sue him,” she said.
Phiri said she wanted him to pay her for damaging her daughter.
The two were appearing before senior local court magistrate Ackim Phiri sitting with senior local court magistrate Harriet Mbewe.
Njobvu said he had been in a relationship with the girl for eight months.
He said they had sex several times, which lead to the pregnancy.
“Her relatives called me several times, but I did not go there because I was waiting for my relatives to escort me,” he said.
“I didn’t want to go there empty-handed because I knew they would charge me,” Njobvu said.
The court ordered him to pay K7,000 as compensation with the first installment of K1,000 effective this month-end.
