SOME farmers in Katete have expressed sadness for being left out of the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) and fear the development will complicate their farming practices.

They said many of them that had tried to register for FISP were told not to do so and were told to go back to their respective villages.

In an interview with the Sun, headman Kalinde (Adrian Banda) who spoke on behalf of the farmers in the district said they were disappointed because they had been excluded from FISP.

Headman Kalinde said the officers who were in charge of distributing fertilizer in the district had made it clear and advised new farmers that they would not be allowed to register for FISP.

“The new farmers who wanted to register for FISP were told to go back because FISP was not taking on new clients. And we have a lot of new clients, who are ready to grow crops this farming season,

“The new farmers are very disappointed because they were geared for this farming season,” he said.

Headman Kalinde wanted to know what plans government had for the new entrants and why they were not allowed to join FISP.
